Muddy Toes
Stanmore Bay
Not your average daycare.
We do things a little differently. Guided by our forest philosophy, we believe childhood should be full of real-world experiences, outdoor adventures, and the freedom to learn through play.
With loving care, meaningful relationships, and rich learning opportunities for every age and stage—this is early learning as it should be.
-
Forest Philosophy at the Core
Outdoor learning is at the heart of our programme. From beach play to bush adventures, tamariki explore the natural world daily — building confidence, coordination, and a deep connection to our unique coastal environment.
-
Belonging for all Ages
We welcome babies, toddlers, and preschoolers in a mixed-age setting.
Infants have their own calm, cosy space to settle and feel secure, with the option to join older tamariki when ready—encouraging connection, confidence, and learning through tuakana–teina relationships.
-
Child-Led Play & Learning
Our play-based approach encourages creativity, curiosity, and problem-solving.
By following each child’s interests, we support meaningful early learning that builds independence and a love of discovery.
-
Relationships & Wellbeing
Strong relationships underpin everything we do. Through respectful, consistent care and responsive teaching, our experienced teachers nurture emotional development, social skills, and a sense of belonging for every child.
FAQs
What are your opening hours?
We’re open Monday to Friday, 8am–5pm, all year round (except public holidays).
What are the benefits of the forest philosophy?
Spending time in nature supports children’s physical, emotional, and cognitive development. It helps build resilience, confidence, and strong immune systems. Outdoor play encourages curiosity, movement, and problem-solving, all while nurturing a deep connection to the natural world.
Do babies go out in all weather too?
We take a gentle, age-appropriate approach to outdoor play for our youngest tamariki. Babies have a warm, settled indoor space but they also spend plenty of time outdoors which has fantastic benefits for infants. Every decision is made with care—we’re guided by the child, the conditions, and your preferences as a whānau.
What do I need to pack?
Please pack morning tea and lunch, a drink bottle, spare clothes, and any comfort items your child might need. We’re often outdoors, so make sure your child is dressed for the weather—including gumboots, a warm layer, and a sunhat.
Why don’t you offer meals?
Being a lunchbox centre helps keep our fees lower. Without the overhead of a cook or kitchen, we can pass those savings directly on to whānau.
Lunchboxes also give us the flexibility to take learning on the go, whether we’re eating in the bush or by the sea. It’s great preparation for school and gives you confidence in knowing exactly what your child has eaten during the day.
We also provide a fresh fruit platter for afternoon tea.
Do you offer 20 ECE Hours?
Yes! We offer the government-funded 20 Hours ECE for all eligible children aged 3–5. We can help you work out the best way to structure your enrolment to make the most of this.
